AHARA'S PRE/PERINATAL AYURVEDIC STUDIES

...

AHARA began practicing and teaching yoga through IKYTA (International Kundalini Yoga Teacher Association) in 1974 and became a certified yoga instructor in 1982. This began the cultivation of her ayurvedic understandings for diet, lifestyle and yoga. In 1982 she became a Postpartum Doula and Sevador through IKYTA for the sacred 40-day postpartum window. The program was based in the ancient understandings of ayurveda for postpartum mothers. Ahara worked as a Postpartum Doula, coached couples in postpartum planning and taught prenatal yoga for both mothers and fathers. In 1998 Ahara and Ysha Oakes (who later established Sacred Window School) met. Ahara supported Ysha in her work and they began collaborating in their Postpartum understandings. Ahara attended the Postpartum Doula and Pancha Karma certification studies at the Rocky Mountain Institute of Yoga and Ayurveda in 2000 – 2004 also co-teaching postpartum courses with Ysha. Dr Vaidya joined the RMIYA staff and Dr Sarita Shresta (an ayurvedic doctor of Women’s Health) offered annual special Postpartum courses at RMIYA both of which deepened the RMIYA program.

In 2005 Ysha officially created Sacred Window School and enrolled Suzanne Ropiequet to be part of its foundation. Ahara joined the Sacred Window faculty in teaching the Postpartum Bodywork Doula program. Ysha and Ahara collaborated their information and skills into creating new teaching manuals for the Postpartum Bodywork and Ethics and Infant Massage. Ysha went under the tutelage of Dr Vaidya for deeper Ayurvedic Postpartum understandings and counseling for specific problems postpartum mothers encountered. The Vaidya’s worked in collaboration with Ysha and both parties spoke of a fuller collaboration between the two respective schools: Sacred Window and Ayurved Sadhana. Since Ysha Oakes’s passing in May 2015 Ahara continues to hold these postpartum teachings in the highest regard and teaches the Postpartum Mothers Bodywork Program: Postpartum Mothers Massage, Marma and Ethics, and Infant Massage. Ahara still serves on faculty at Sacred Window School.

She is delighted to support Ayurved Sadhana in one of the first full Ayurvedic Postpartum Doula programs and to help fulfill the joining of these two schools of Postpartum wisdom and teachings.

Ahara is also a LMT, Biodynamic Cranial Therapist, Advanced Aromatherapy Alchemist, Medical Massage Therapist, Chi Nei Tsang Internal Organ Massage certified Therapist, a Worldwide Aquatic Bodywork Aquatic Bodywork Therapist and Instructor and a Soul Alchemist and Instructor (Soul Alchemy supports Personal Transformation also the Healing of Trauma, which is in part based in traumatic birth and postpartum experiences). She also holds a Psychology degree through the University of Colorado, Boulder and a minister’s license through the Center for Soulful Living.
